milandejong Complex, sweet and layered. Just like a good cake it leaves you craving for more. Or a good beer, wine, whisky or whatever tickles your fancy. Favorite track: Hyrumé.

about

Hideaway was recorded in and around Rotterdam, The Netherlands, mostly at home. It started out as demos for potential band members, but eventually became an EP, still with the same intention.

"Treading Water" and "The Fog" stem from their early drafts from long ago. A lot was re-recorded and added in later years, mostly between 2016 and early 2018, often interrupted by other songs and projects, and also by endless tweaking, leaving it and coming back to it months or years later.
"Hyrumé" was recorded throughout 2019. The lyrics are in a non-existing 'language' that was designed for this song; a concept also used in some of the many songs that are still waiting on the shelf.
*** February 2020 update: "Nocturne by Night" has just escaped that shelf. It was recorded during a stormy night earlier this month and finished within a week; a very welcome change of pace. It uses the same lyrical concept. ***
A similar lyrical concept is sometimes used by Icelandic band Sigur Rós, who have been a big inspiration for this.

Other influences that may be noticeable in obvious or subtle ways, include: Radiohead, John Frusciante, Jacob Collier, Pearl Jam, Steven Wilson, Spinvis, Widowspeak, Tame Impala, Imogen Heap, early Coldplay, early Muse, sleep deprivation, stagnation, progress, highs, lows, euphoria, melancholy, cold feelings, warm feelings and warm lies. (yikes!)
Others have pointed out similarities with Elliott Smith and Bon Iver, who may have also left their mark at the end. Especially the former, who was playing on repeat during the recording of Hyrumé. Well, not literally during recording, that would've required some serious multitasking. Also, the microphone would've picked that up and get me in all sorts of copyright problems.
